Things You Need to Know About Lake Wilcox Park
Lake Wilcox Park is one of the best public parks in Richmond Hill. Situated on the eastern shorelines of Lake Wilcox, it has been a home to numerous plants and animals. The park is also a local’s favorite; aside from the great view of Lake Wilcox, it also has several amenities that suits all age levels. Families, specially those with little kids, often visit the park to play and spend time together.
Lake Wilcox Park is located at 55 Olde Bayview Avenue, Richmond Hill, Ontario. It is open 24 hours every day to the public, and was originally called Sunset Beach Park. Self-Guided Tree Tour
You can enjoy a 45-minute self-guided tree tour in this beautiful park too. Know more about native tree species and urban forest, as well as the organizations that help provide environmental services in the community. Some of the native trees you might see there are white pine, mountain maple, black walnut, and American beech.

It is a lovely place to go in any season. Most go there to watch the sunset, have a picnic with the whole family, or spend time with friends. The splash pad is a favorite of many and is quite spacious. Kids enjoy this, specially on hot, summer days. Teens mostly enjoy the sports courts and skate park, while adults relax on the wide green spaces and trails or have barbeque. Its vast parking lot gets very busy on weekends, but is still accessible. The restrooms and change rooms are also clean.

- Lakefront Promenade – a long, paved road surrounded by bushes and green grass. The overlooking view of the lake is very serene. There are also several benches to sit in while you enjoy the summer breeze and splendid view of the sunset. You can stroll, bike, or walk your pet around.
- Splash Pad – like splash pads at most parks in the town, they are open during summer months from June to early September. It has several showers and sprinklers that both kids and adults enjoy. There are also seats near the splash pads but shaded areas are limited.
- Seating and Picnic Area – aside from park benches, there are also some outdoor table and chairs with umbrella. The seating area is a great place for picnic and barbeque. A lot of people prefer this area because of its proximity to the splash pad and bathrooms.
- Playgrounds – most parents bring their kids here to enjoy the huge and unique playgrounds. One part of the playgrounds has slides, swings, and bridges slides while the other side has vigorous and obstacle courses made from tree stumps and logs.
- Youth Area – teens hang out here with friends, usually to practice skating at the skate park, or play volleyball and other sports in its multi-sports court. However, everyone is reminded to keep safe and avoid vigorous play.
- Other Features – the park amenities are all very nice and clean. It has wide green spaces, plants and flowers, a parking lot, and washrooms.

Future Developments
- Boardwalk over the lake – its construction is still ongoing. If weather permits, the construction of this boardwalk is expected to be completed this year.
- Canoe Club area redevelopment – one of their plans for Lake Wilcox Park is the redevelopment of the Canoe Club Area. Scheduled to start in 2021, it is another big project with a good intent.
